Last week was just one of those weeks. I said good-bye to my dog Lily, whom I often joked was 11stories’ best employee. Lily snuggled by me every day as I worked, making sure I took time out for lunch (hoping for food to drop on the floor), exercise (walks to meet other four-legged friends at the park), and relaxation (lots of belly rubs.) She was 75 pounds of love, and we miss her desperately. Then just a few days later, my daughter broke her wrist falling off the monkey bars at the playground. Thankfully, at four years old, she has taken it all in stride – she was most concerned about choosing the color of her cast (purple) and how soon she could go back to the playground.
Needless to say, my work was put on hold. As I come back to work this week, I am reminded that inevitably, in every story I hear, it is times like these that allow us to reflect on what is important and to appreciate all that we have. I am blessed to have a wonderful little family and a strong community of friends who provide love and support and chocolate when needed. And I am so fortunate to have a job that allows me to share in people’s joys. We come together to celebrate – a wedding, a birthday, an anniversary.
This week I am working on two engagement books, as well as several exciting new projects that I will share over the next few months. Here’s to celebrating the joy!
