inspired: title case

my primary inspiration comes from my clients and their stories.  as i design their books, i think about their personalities, their wedding style if relevant, their favorite photos, favorite places, etc.  the book design is one of my favorite aspects of my work.  perhaps because it takes me out of my usual analytical brain, perhaps because it brings new challenges and allows me to try new ideas with each book.

as i design books, i also look for inspiration beyond the client.  in particular, i love to explore the world of type & lettering.  my goal with each book is to highlight your words, to let your words shine on the page.  i play with a variety of fonts to try to find the ones that will reflect your style and your voice.

this week’s inspiration come from jessica hische & erik marinovich at title case.  they recently did a wonderful video describing their work process and their own inspirations.  you can see a preview here.  they create custom, hand-made lettering that truly elevates the written word.  while these are not necessarily appropriate for a full-length book, they push me to think of each letter as an art form, and to consider font styles that i may not typically choose.  and that to me is the definition of inspiration!
